CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
OUTSTANDING YOUTH FUNDRAISER AWARDS
Please take a minute to think about any young people you know and the wonderful projects they are working on to help others in need. The Outstanding Youth Fundraiser Awards are given each year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Maryland Chapter (AFP-MD) to recognize youths who are personally involved and actively engaged in a project to raise funds to help their community. Additionally, the non-profit organizations represented by the winners receive a $250 donation from AFP-MD.
Click here for a nomination form and click here to view a list of some past award winners to serve as a reference for qualified fundraising projects. Students in elementary school through college are eligible for the award. This does not mean students have to raise funds through a school-related project. Students can be part of a scout troop, religious group or other club or organization, as well as a school. Groups of students who worked together on a fundraising project can also be nominated.
Criteria used to select the award winners include evidence of quality of leadership and organizational abilities, originality and creative thought of a fundraising project, and how the funds raised benefited a Maryland non-profit organization or the Maryland community. Such projects include raising funds or goods (food, clothing, toys, etc.) for a homeless shelter, performing a public service to help build a playground, renovate housing, or clean up a waterway, etc.
Nominations must be submitted by June 16, 2008. A selection committee will choose the award winners and they will be notified in August 2008. The awards will be given at the National Philanthropy Day luncheon, presented by Ketchum, in November 2008. (The date of the event will be announced shortly on the AFP-MD website at www.afpmaryland.org) If you have been to this luncheon in the past, you know that the youth awards are a highlight of the event.
Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have any questions, please call 410-933-3460 or send an email to ctodd@umbc.edu. Additionally, the nomination form is available at www.afpmaryland.org.
Sincerely,
Carmel Todd
